Now Hiring Plant Maintenance/ Mechanical Engineer

The City of Medicine Hat Electric Generation department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join their team and contribute to providing a reliable supply of power to customers within Medicine Hat and surrounding area. As a key member of the Electric Generation team, this position provides plant engineering and maintenance & reliability support, as well, as project management.

As our ideal candidate, you possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have demonstrated your ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You are competent in preparing/coordinating basic design and/or engineering work scope documents (EWSD) and have the ability to understand, and generate comprehensive written documentation in order to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

You have experience in the execution of a Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (ABSA AB-512), and with Asset Management systems and Outage Management. You have demonstrated strong project management skills and the ability to provide engineering support to resolving technical issues, capital projects and plant improvement projects, including the ability to undertake design work, produce specifications and assist with evaluation of tender proposals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related disciplines and registered with APEGA.
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience as a Professional Engineer in thermo-electric generating facility or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of high-pressure steam boilers, steam and combustion turbines, electrical generators, balance of plant and their associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Working knowledge of GE LM6000/LM2500 Gas turbines Major Components, Auxiliary Equipment & systems. (Troubleshooting, Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance)
  • Experience, trained on Alberta Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations, ASME Code (BPVC, Pressure & Power Piping Code)
  • Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management principles including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Mechanical Integrity, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Compliance Audits.
  • Possession of a Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with an acceptable driving record, and ability to obtain a City of Medicine Hat Driver's License.

This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
