Now Hiring Plant Maintenance/Maintenance Reliability Engineer

As a key team member, this position contributes to providing a reliable supply of power to customers within Medicine Hat and surrounding area by providing engineering support to the power plant operations and maintenance.

Our ideal candidate

  • Is competent in preparing and coordinating basic design and/or engineering work scope documents (EWSD) and understand and generate comprehensive written documentation to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Has experience in the execution of a Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (ABSA AB-512), and with Asset Management systems and Outage Management.
  • Has demonstrated strong project management skills and the ability to provide engineering support to resolving technical issues, capital projects and plant improvement projects, including the ability to undertake design work, produce specifications and assist with evaluation of tender proposals.
  • Has extensive knowledge of high-pressure steam boilers, steam and combustion turbines, electrical generators, balance of plant and their associated auxiliary equipment and all related code, regulations, and standards.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills and have demonstrated your ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related disciplines and registered with APEGA.
  • Working knowledge of GE LM6000/LM2500 Gas turbines Major Components, Auxiliary Equipment & systems. (Troubleshooting, Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance)
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience as a Professional Engineer in thermo-electric generating facility or related field.
  • Experience with Alberta Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations, ASME Code (BPVC, Pressure & Power Piping Code)
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management principles including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Mechanical Integrity, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Compliance Audits.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved training and experience may be considered.

The City has brought online a new natural gas combustion turbine generator, known as Unit 17 to increase the total generation capacity by 44 megawatts. It includes a heat recovery system for increased efficiency and emission control technology to reduce NOx emission and meet environmental approval requirements.
