This is a skilled position in the construction, operation and maintenance areas of the electric distribution section who works under the general direction of Foreman in Electric Distribution Operations.

Our ideal candidate

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs all components of the street lighting and electrical distribution systems.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to groundman operators, utility helpers, casual labourers, and apprentices in his crew during normal working day-to-day operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and safe work methods used when working on all low, medium, and high voltage Electric Utility distribution and transmission systems.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret work orders, procedures, and design drawings.
  • Act as a safety champion, follows all rules, guidelines and SOP's and puts personal and public safety at the forefront of each job.
  • Review, understand, commit, and work in the safest possible manner consistent with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and the City's Health, Safety and Environment Management System.
  • Knowledge of the City of Medicine Hat Electric Distribution System.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Journeyman Power Line Technician Red Seal Trade Certificate.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Journeyman in the construction, operation, and maintenance of an Electric Distribution System.
  • Possess and maintain a current Class 3 Alberta motor vehicle operator's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved education and experience may be considered.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
